As part of our ongoing effort to elevate voices calling for equal rights for crime victims, we’re pleased to share this letter to the editor from Ryan Fielding, originally published by the Cap Times.
Dear Editor: I was recently asked by Marsy's Law to design, create and paint eight life-sized silhouettes representing victims from all walks of life. These pieces were on display at the Wisconsin state Capitol during National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
This project hit differently. It's not just art; it's people, stories, and lives that matter. Each silhouette stands for someone who deserves to be seen, remembered and respected.
Six years ago, Wisconsin passed Marsy's Law, guaranteeing victims a range of rights, including the right to privacy, to be notified, to be present and to be heard. The more people who know about it, the stronger it gets.
That's why this display mattered.
I'm honored and humbled to have been trusted with something this meaningful. Marsy's Law continues to do incredibly important work advocating for victims and their families. Learn what Marsy's Law means. And share it.
